New Monitor!

Thursday, the 8th of January 2026

Despite still being a bit sick, I got up on time today because yesterday, while playing through Bendy 2, my new monitor arrived!

I had been looking forward to getting a bigger monitor ever since switching to a single monitor setup and sorely missing the extra screen space I had access to with two. I found the Samsung Evnia 32" was on sale this last 1.1 so I decided to bite the bullet and get it.

I didn't even realise it had 4k160 - I purely bought it because it was the cheapest IPS 4k panel above 27" I could find, since I wanted the most incremental upgrade possible. It's been a treat so far, even though for most of the day I was working from my couch watching my roommate play through Outer Wilds (which I thoroughly enjoyed).

I have a pretty convoluted setup between my desktop and my work laptop with a KVM in between that proudly sports "4k60" on its body, so I totally thought the HRR for 4k would't work, but I was pleasantly surprised - MacOS lets me do up to 120, and Windows works with 160. Very excited to try playing some games this weekend, but the priority right now is setting up the Crosses ZMK board I picked up last month, since I didn't have time to in December.

I've set a goal for this month, preferably by 25 January so I have the last week of the month off - I want to get my infra set up enough that https://rrv.sh is back up and running. Ideally, I'll also have my servers set up with NixOS and properly CI/CDed, but I'm considering those stretch goals and taking it easy this January.

That's all for today. I wanted to get a post out before I hit the hay tonight. Hopefully the naproxen will carry my immune system enough that I'll be feeling up to a walk tomorrow morning, since I haven't gotten to do that this week yet. Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow!
