A Panacea for My Inattention

Monday, the 6th of April 2026

Good evening, loyal readers of my weblog (assuming there are readers; I don't have analytics on the site). Updates have been slightly sparse of the daily goal I aimed to hit this month, but I am on a bidaily (?) cadence, which I will call a win. The reason for this mild dearth in publishing is that I don't really know what to write about, but I realise that producing the best quality of writing isn't really the point; thus, today I will tell you what I did today and not worry too much about how smart I sound.

Reading wise, I'm still working through the Elric Saga in an internally chronological reading order, primarily dictated by a guide in the back of Saga Press' first Elric omnibus comprising of the following:

I did say I wanted to write some on the first arc of Elric's saga up until TWotWW Book 1, but was hooked enough to keep going until I finished the novel, and hopped right into the second Saga Press omnibus and THE VANISHING TOWER. Unfortunately, this one was a bit of a miss, but I've finally made my way to THE REVENGE OF THE ROSE where we are finally back to some damn exposition. I will write my thoughts once I finish STORMBRINGER since it is the planned end of Elric's story before the 21st century trilogy, which I am still excited for but wish to pen down my thoughts beforehand. Anyway, got in about nine chapters between TVT and TRotR today - hoping to read a little more over dinner.

Also in the last couple of days I have actually picked up DJing - it is insanely fun and I have been hooked on it since Saturday, which is when I got to play with my girlfriend's DDJ-FLX4. I spun for like an hour on friday, three hours Saturday, four on Sunday, and an hour and a half (ish) today after work. I've just been mixing the beginner Spotify house playlist, because I find a lot of the fun comes in the transition rather than the song selection for me now, but I have been quickly getting bored and starting to mix in my own tracks from my playlists, though it hasn't been going very well (I am a very eclectic music listener).

Also of note is that today was the first day I properly did interstitial journalling - I have already been doing a form of this in my digital log, but since I dropped it I went back to having my journal in front of me throughout the day and updating it with the next planned activity. It was good - it does help to have a visual aid of what the current target is, and it helped me keep my mind wandering off for most of the day - I got like 5 PRs in from 11am to 5pm. Also, I am once again trying to quit smoking!!! Today I've had four cigarettes, and I'll allow another as a nightcap - the goal is to get it down to one a day before the end of the month. I'm already craving them less and less, so I am pretty confident that I'll at least see a reduction overall to hopefully maintaining only five per day...?

Regardless, I am pretty happy with the day, even though I did not technically do anything "productive" - I gave it my all pretty much and didn't get lost in many rabbitholes which is always going to be a win for me. In the end, the panacea for my inattention is choosing to pay attention to the things I care about, not necessarily what society prescribes for us. See you tomorrow (or in two days)!
